The core idea
Narrative therapy starts from a simple but radical belief: the problem is the problem; the person is not the problem. Anxiety isn't who you are. Grief isn't who you are. A diagnosis isn't who you are. You have a relationship with these things — and that relationship can change.
What happens in sessions
Together we examine the stories you've been told about yourself — and the ones you've come to believe — and we look for the moments those stories don't capture. The strengths. The exceptions. The things that have always been true about you that the difficult chapters have obscured.
Who narrative therapy fits
- Clients who feel defined by a diagnosis or label
- Those processing identity transitions or major life chapters
- People who've been the "patient" in their own story for a long time and want to be the author again
- Clients who appreciate collaborative, non-pathologizing therapy
